Kumawu (Ash), May 15, GNA - The Kumawu circuit court on Wednesday fined a 38-year-old labourer one million cedis for stealing five iron rods valued at 300,000 cedis. Samuel Amankwaah, who pleaded guilty to stealing, will go to prison for 12 months in default.

Police Inspector Anthony Godfred Sekyi told the court, presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie, that at about 1700 hours on May 10, this year, one Fuseini and another worker of Innovative Thinking Construction Company Limited who were undertaking a construction work at the Tweneboa Koduah Secondary School at Kumawu, saw Amankwaah carrying five iron rods from the school and heading towards Kumawu town. He said Fuseini trailed the accused until he entered his house and confronted him to explain why he brought the iron rods to the house without authority.

Inspector Sekyi said when Amankwaah could not offer any tangible explanation Fuseini reported the case to one Michael Amenyo, a senior officer of the company, who also reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused. He said during interrogation, Amankwaah admitted stealing the iron rods and was consequently charged with the offence.
