Kuntanase (Ash), June 14, GNA - The Kuntanase magistrate court on Thursday granted Pastor Kofi Asamoah Anin of the Atonsu-Agogo Kristo Asafo Church 50 million cedis bail for careless driving and negligently causing harm.

After initially not taking his plea of not guilty, the court changed its stand and granted him bail following a medical report he produced which indicated that he (accused) had a spinal cord injury.

The court, presided over by Mr Agyei Frimpong therefore ordered Pastor Anin to report weekly to the Kuntanase police until a fiat was received from the Attorney-General's office.

He will therefore, re-appear on June 24.

Chief Inspector Edward Osei told the court that on November 30, last year, the accused drove his saloon car from Ejisu through Kuntanase towards Kumasi.

He said on reaching a section of the road, he lost control of the car and veered off his lane and rammed into another vehicle from the opposite direction and driven by one Police Constable Adusei Kwarteng who was stationed in Accra, killing him and one Kwame Owusu instantly. Chief Inspector Osei said Michael Appiagyei, assemblyman for Piase and J.K. Addai who were in the police constable's car sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi where they were admitted for several months.

He said Pastor Anin and three others, who were in his car also sustained injuries but were treated and discharged at the Pramso Catholic hospital and KATH respectively.
