Tema, June 26, GNA - A 22-year-old disk jockey who acted on rumours and attacked a music producer at Tema Community nine has been remanded into custody by the Tema circuit court 'B'. Benjamin Ayittey Okai pleaded not guilty to charges of threatening to kill and assault. He will reappear on July 2, 2004.

Prosecuting, Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the Court, presided over by Mr Stephen Teye, that on June 19, 2004, at about 1700 hours, the accused confronted the complainant in the presence of one Ato Forson about a rumour alleging that he (accused) only patronised programmes because of food.

The Court heard that seeing that he was angry, Forson pleaded with the accused to go so that at the appropriate time the issue would be addressed, but the infuriated Okai removed his shirt, held the complainants shirt neck and shook him several times back and front. Okai also threatened the complainant never to step into town else he will kill him.

Inspector Agbedanu said the complainant reported the case to the Community Eight Police, who asked him to come the following day. The accused on hearing that the complainant had reported the case to the police again attacked him with a wooden bar near his (complainant's) house, injuring him seriously.
