Ejisu (Ash), Oct 21, GNA - A 39-year-old farmer of Ampabame in the Ejisu-Juaben District was on Monday remanded by the Ejisu district court for attempted murder.

He pleaded guilty and will re-appear on October 27. Police Inspector Nkansah Twumasi-Ankrah told the court that the farmer, Kofi Asante, on the night of September 30 wanted to have sex with his wife Madam Akosua Donkor but she refused.

He said following this, bad blood developed between the couple and two days later the accused prepared food and ate with his five children leaving out the wife.

Inspector Twumasi-Ankrah said the accused later went out to buy a cigarette and on his way home he overheard his wife threatening to divorce him.

He said an exchange of words ensued and the wife was alleged to have slapped the accused, who went for a cutlass but they were separated.

Asante was not satisfied and so he shot his wife in the left leg. He said neighbours overpowered him, took the gun away from him and took his wife to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
