Kumasi, July 4, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court has remanded a 22-year-old unemployed, Yaw Acheampong, for stealing mobile phones worth 12 million cedis. He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on July 10.

Police Chief Inspector John K. Afful told the court that on October 10, 2002 Mr Akwasi Poku's mobile phone shop at Bantama in Kumasi was broken into and nine phones stolen. Chief Inspector Afful said on June 18 this year one of Mr Poku's shop assistants saw the accused holding one of the stolen phones at Bantama and confronted him.

Acheampong was said to have explained that he found it on the ground and picked it but the shop assistant did not accept the explanation. He struggled with the accused in a bid to wrestle the phone from him and that attracted people to the scene who assisted to arrest Acheampong.
