Award-winning actor, television presenter and movie producer, Ama K. Abebrese has said that the creative arts industry needs infrastructure and implementation more than money.
In recent times, the deputy minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Honourable Dzifa Gomashie, had in a meeting with some selected journalists and media personalities at her office disclosed that government has never released any money for the creative arts industry since the ministry started operation in 2012 – a situation many entertainment pundits have described as unfortunate.
Responding on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch with Abrantepa on the effects this situation will have on the creative arts industry, Ama K. Abebrese indicated that the impact was minimal since the industry has survived without government’s financial support.
“To be honest, I don’t feel it affects the industry greatly. Sometimes it’s not about the industry getting money. It’s about getting access and getting things in place which works. For example, our distribution, curbing piracy and making sure that what needs to be done is done etc.”, she said.
Adding, “If you look at the industry, government hasn’t really done so much for so many years; yet the industry has thrived and survived and it carries on. So whether governments sit up or not, this industry has been going on without them and it will continue without them. They should sit up though”.
“The government has a part to play. But I feel it should do more in infrastructure and implementation,” she added.
