Ghana’s DJ Black and UK’s award-winning DJ Tim Westwood caught the admiration of those present at the Ghana Rocks Concert with their back to back jam of both highlife and hip hop music.
Their craft, which they exhibited in-between performances, kept the audience off their seats to bust a move or two as the music was gripping and better than some of the performances on the day.
DJ Black started it all with Ghanaian and Nigerian music mix that got people cheering at their favourites while others couldn’t help it but sing along and dance till sweat dripped all over their bodies.
This was after performances by Strong-G, winner of GhOne’s Hip Hop Next Big Thing, Looney and Wanzam, Temble and Vodafone Icons winner Ryan. Gemini also performed some of his songs and gave a tribute to Ronnie Coaches by singing a Buk Bak song.
Sister Deborah also gave an awkward performance with her male dancers wearing skirts and dancing like females as one carries a huge banana replica onto the stage while she performed her hit song, “Uncle Obama”.
Kaakie did not disappoint this time around as she gave a ravishing performance coupled with artistic dance moves while D-Money went hyper with his “kpokpo o body” hit and later joined by J-Town to perform their song. M.anifest was on point on the day with his trademark bead necklace and African fabric shirt with C-Real joining him to perform a song they did together.
EL took his turn getting the audience on their feet as he performs his “Halleluiah” song. He gave an insight of his new song “Ayayaa” after which Lil Shaker joined him to finish off a song they did together. “Obuumo” took the audience to another level.
4X4 went old school from Odo Fitaa to their first song with Buk Bak as a tribute to Ronnie Coaches. Ghanaian Charsay from the UK took his turn rapping in Twi as Tim Westwood gets set to rock the Conference Centre.
Tim Westwood took it to the 90s and back as he appealed to the audience who sang along songs by Biggie in the 90s and 50 cent in the new millennium. Songs by Drake and Lil Wayne were not left out as he went all out.
Joey B performed his hit song Strawberry Ginger and Cigarette while the audience were seemingly disappointed when he left without performing Tonga. Apparently it was a ploy.
Eazzy and Edem took their performances seriously as they literally sweat through it all. The UK performances came next but slowed the excitement as the audience were not familiar with the songs of Skobs and Gizmo including Silva, who put in much more effort to get the audience’s attention.
Sarkodie’s entrance caused disarray as some of the audience rushed to the stage to have a closer feel of their star, which skyrocketed when Joey B joined him to perform the new hit song, “Tonga” with the audience singing along word for word.
R2bees also had a big entrance but “pulled up” a lot to the dissatisfaction of the audience who wanted to enjoy their favourite songs to the end.
Tim Westwood took it over with a delivery of a succinct music collage creating a rippling effect in the audience’s bones.
The icing on the cake was Shatta Wale, with an improved performance especially the apology he rendered Charter House. The Concert ended at exactly 3am with smiles on the faces of people.
