Great Ampong is a gospel musician
Gospel musician Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, popularly known as Great Ampong, has dismissed claims that the late Daddy Lumba was bedridden for 17 years before his death.
Speaking in an interview on Neat FM with Ola Michael on December 8, 2025, Ampong disclosed that although Lumba battled a serious health condition, the duration has been exaggerated by sections of the public.
According to Ampong, his relationship with Daddy Lumba dates back to 2012, when the two met after one of Lumba’s performances.
“I met Daddy Lumba after his performance at one of his shows. He told me he had been looking for me and he was so happy. He lifted me up in the presence of Roman Fada. He said to me that if Ghanaians knew what’s in me, they would lift me up as he did and that was in 2012,” he said.
He stated that he regularly visited Lumba’s home to check on him but was often told the musician was not around.
Ampong recounted that nearly two years later, Lumba invited him to his home. Upon arrival, he discovered the late musician was seriously ill and confined to a wheelchair.
“I used to go to his house to check on him but they always said he wasn’t around. Almost two years later, Daddy Lumba called me and asked me to come home. When I got there, he was sick and in a wheelchair.

“I realised they didn’t want anyone to know he was sick, that’s why they always said he wasn’t around. He said the pain he was going through was so severe to the extent that he sometimes wished he could end it all and asked me to get him a powerful pastor,” he narrated.
He added that Lumba secretly watched him through CCTV cameras whenever he visited, but instructed his household not to let anyone see him due to how frail he had become.
“He used to watch me in the CCTV cameras whenever I was there to check on him but he was the one who told them not to allow anyone see him because of his condition,” he shared.
Ampong insisted that claims suggesting Daddy Lumba was sick and bedridden for 17 years are false.
“Those saying he was sick and bedridden for 17 years should stop spreading lies. I’m aware he wasn’t as strong as he was when he lifted me up but he wasn’t sick like how I met him in a wheelchair,” he noted.
He continued, “According to what he told me, he was bedridden for close to two years. Odo Broni who was taking care of him, when I got there, she was the one who served me.”
The gospel singer said he initially preferred to remain silent after Lumba’s passing, but the “fabricated stories” compelled him to set the record straight.
“I preferred not to speak after his death but hearing the lies people are fabricating made me want to explain things properly,” he added.
