Highlife musician Adangba has attributed the rise in hooliganism among Ghanaian youth to the influence of Dancehall music.

In a report by graphic.com.gh, Adangba argued that the lyrical content and overall vibe of Dancehall music contribute to unruly behavior among young people.

He pointed out that Dancehall music often emphasizes rebellion, violence, and explicit content, which he believes is negatively impacting the minds of the youth.

"It's fostering a culture of lawlessness, disrespect, and aggression, which manifests in various forms of hooliganism," he stated.

Citing the infamous clash between rival Ghanaian Dancehall artistes Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale at the 2019 Ghana Music Awards, Adangba noted that such wild behaviour is common in Jamaica, where Dancehall music originates.

He blamed the situation on Ghanaians' preference for foreign cultures, suggesting that Dancehall's popularity is due to local artists' reluctance to embrace Highlife music.

"Presently, if you describe any of the young musicians as a Highlife artiste, they will outrightly reject it because they think the genre is for old people. We have opened our arms to every foreign thing and continue to look down on our own," he remarked.
