Apparently Davido had to battle with issues following his deal with the Sony Music. In January 2017, the DMW’s boss announced how he managed to rework his deal’s terms with the giant music producer cum marketer, explaining under the new terms, he would be allowed to sing the way he wanted.

And now, the Omo baba Olowo has taken to Instagram to explain how he had to fight to make the kind of music he was comfortable with. He also revealed his new song “If” is now the biggest in Africa.

In the video, American musician Omarion is seen dancing to his latest song If and in the caption, Davido reveals that in 2016, ‘they’ wanted him to change his sound, saying staying true to his culture wouldn’t work for him outside Africa. In this case, ‘they’ might mean his record label Sony Music.

The bro @1omarion feeling da 'IF' vibes! All last year , they tried to change my sound .. saying staying true to my culture wouldn't work for me outside Africa! This year I fought and pleaded for 'them' to allow me make the music I know how to make and now see what's happened!! MUSIC AINT GOT A LANGUAGE !! NOW I GOT THE BIGGEST SONG IN AFRICA ONCE AGAIN! THANK TO JAH!!
