Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Sept. 3, GNA - A blend of shock and excitement last Monday gripped residents of Kwadwo-Addaikrom, a farming community near Nkrankranta in the Dormaa District when Yaw Donkor, 32, who was declared dead and was being prepared for burial suddenly rose and asked to be assisted to ease himself.
Philip Yaw, Driver of the vehicle contracted to convey the suspected mortal remains of Yaw Donkor to Maasu, his hometown for interment told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the latter was declared dead the previous day and was taken through all the necessary burial formalities.
Yaw Philip said, after a well attended wake-keeping, he was contacted to convey the corpse to Maasu near Dormaa-Ahenkro, to be laid to rest.
According to the driver, while in the Diabaa Forest Reserve, the mourners accompanying the corpse wanted to ease themselves, so he parked the vehicle and while they were out urinating, the alleged corpse suddenly woke up and asked him to help him (the corpse) to urinate. Later, he demanded to know what the matter was, in that deep forest.
Philip Yaw said the mourning suddenly turned into jubilation as they changed their course for the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital where Yaw Donkor has been treated and discharged.
Later, the "resurrected man" told the GNA in an interview that his woes began when he picked a quarrel with his wife, who consequently deserted her matrimonial home.
He said his wife's family's attempt to resolve the conflict amicably rather degenerated into a fight, during which he was pummeled severely and as a result of which he suffered acute pains in the ribs. Yaw Donkor said his mother provided him with first aid by massaging him daily to relieve the pain and it was after one such massage sessions on that fateful Sunday that he went to sleep and woke up later to find to his horror that he had been dressed up in a shroud and was being conveyed through the forest.
Asked if the bitter experience would permit him to carry on with the marriage, Yaw Donkor threw his hands in despair saying: "That decision rests with our families."
