Dear GhanaWeb: What do wives spend their salaries on?

Dear GhanaWeb,

I earn GH¢6,000 every month, and as soon as my salary is paid, I give my wife GH¢4,000 to manage the household for the month.

Additionally, whenever I receive extra money, I give it to her because she often complains that the money is insufficient.

From the remaining GH¢2,000, I allocate GH¢1,000 to her for hair and clothing expenses.

I understand that I am the head of the family, but should I bear the entire financial burden alone?

My wife works in the public sector, and since we got married, she has never assisted me with taking care of the children.

Lately, she has been requesting extra money from me every two weeks, which seems unreasonable.

She often complains about rising prices of items, so I wonder what she contributes financially.

Wouldn't it be fair if she used her own money to support our family?

A successful family is built by the efforts of both partners, not just one.

I believe the notion that men should solely provide for the family is outdated and harmful to marriages. If they continue to rely solely on us, I am curious to know how they spend their own money.
