When she walked on stage dazzling in a black gown to receive her award at the Ghana Women Awards 2024, held at the Accra International Conference Center on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, had a testimony—one that she hoped would inspire others for greatness.
Delay's broadcasting journey began in 1999 at Life FM in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region. In 2005, she joined Top Radio in Accra, hosting a mid-morning show until 2007. From 2007 to 2016, she worked with Oman FM. It was during her time at Oman FM in 2008 that Delay launched her own television show, 'The Delay Show,' which continues to captivate audiences to this day.
Full of gratitude, the media personality, who beamed with smiles while sounding boastful, said she couldn’t imagine how far she would go when she started this journey at age twenty-five.
According to her, there have been incessant remarks and actions to dim her light; however, she has been resolute and has now become a household name, transitioning from a media personality to an entrepreneur.
“You all know I deserve this award,” Delay boasted as the audience cheered her on. “In 2008, when I first came on television, I was barely 25 years old. Sixteen years later, I’m here. My show, The Delay Show, is the most popular talk show in the country.
“When I was starting, I didn’t know my show would become this big. If I knew I was going to come this far, I’d have put in more work; I’d have been more consistent even though I’ve been hardworking and consistent.”
She continued: “I’m grateful to God for bringing me this far. I am a classic example of a rejected stone that has become the head cornerstone. Do not despise small beginnings. You don’t know who is going to be great in the future. Believe in your dream and do not listen to what people have to say.”
The famous television presenter dedicated the award to her sister, who she said, “has been by my side from the beginning until now.”
“When she graduated from the university, she didn’t apply for any job; she just decided to follow me on this journey. I didn’t know where I was going, but she still believed in my journey, and you’ve all seen the growth,” Delay concluded.
The vision of the awards scheme is to honour “our precious mothers and women in the country for the extraordinary roles they play in society,” according to the organizers.
