The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Medical Director at Medicas Hospital, Dr. Yaw Osafo, has identified diabetes and hypertension as potential causes of sexual dysfunction in men.

According to the medical practitioner, there is a group of men who develop sexual problems due to late diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.

“There is a category of individuals who have had conditions, and unfortunately due to late diagnosis or poor compliance with treatment have develop complications out of that and it has affected them sexually.

“Diabetes is one of them, hypertension is one of them. They can cause great sexual dysfunction. So, a lot of men are living with diabetes and it is affecting that whole mechanism of performing,” Dr Osafo explained on the Home Affairs show.

He added that, unfortunately, many of these men exacerbate the situation by turning to aphrodisiacs instead of seeking proper medical treatment.

"Most often, when men realize they are facing these issues, instead of seeking medical help, they resort to aphrodisiacs, making the situation worse."

Dr. Yaw Osafo also criticized some medical practitioners for failing to inform their male patients that certain diabetes and hypertension medications can impact their sexual performance.

"I must admit, physicians are sometimes at fault here. Many of them do not inform their patients that some medications prescribed for diabetes and hypertension may affect their sexual performance."
