Comments made by the grandfather of Fleur East, Ghanaian X-Factor finalist, seems to have snatched victory from the young girl.

Fleur, 27-year-old UK-based Ghanaian, lost to Ben Haenow in a heated finale of the 2014 X-Factor at the Wembley Arena Saturday night.

Fleur and Ben, who were the last two standing performed two songs in front of four judges, a 10,000 live audience and millions of television viewers.

The talented Ghanaian is born to Malcolm East of West of England, Wessex and a Ghanaian mother, Irene Frimpong-Manso. Irene is related to radio personality Adakabre Frimpong-Manso.

After an energy-field performance by Fleur backed by an impressive stagecraft and choreography, all four judges including Simon Cowell gave her a standing ovation. She received wild and loud cheers from the live audience and was tipped for a comfortable win.

Louis Walsh, one of the judges, commented, “I think a star is born” while Simon Cowell said, “Oh My God! You know what, I’ve got to say this, of all the finalists I’ve ever had on any of these shows…that was the greatest performance I have ever witnessed…”But just when the Ghanaian beauty thought she was on her way to glory, her grandfather, Mr R O Frimpong’s comments on her performance may have caused some damage to her chances.

Her grandfather, who had travelled from Ghana to the UK for the finale, said, “I feel she is great, she’s persistently, constantly improved by day and if Fleur does not win the X-Factor 2014 there is something wrong with the whole panel.” Those comments were believed to have angered many.

The winner of this year’s show was chosen by the general public and it was estimated that there were 10 million votes on Saturday night.

Some enthusiasts of the show believe that Fleur’s grandpa’s comment might have lost her some valuable votes.

Yk Amakye Ansah-Yeboah said on Facebook “Oldpapa ... hmmmmm Never mind, your granddaughter Fleur East is already a superstar ... But your comment just might not have helped in the ears of the British public.”

Rita Adjoa Agyeman also commented, “Not a pleasant news...but know this X Factor just set the stage &tone for bigger things to come. I mean reference JHud she didn't win American Idol but persevered to win the prestigious award at the Oscars and the Grammy's. Her talent will speak!!! And grandpa oo next time mind your tongue lol.”
