Roasted plantain, also known locally as "Kofi Brokeman," is a nutritious food offering benefits for digestive health due to its fibre content and for supporting the immune system with Vitamins A and C.

Here are some specific nutritional benefits:

* Rich in Vitamins:

Plantains are a significant source of Vitamin A, which supports vision and immune function, and Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals.

* Good Fiber Source:

The fibre in plantains aids digestion by adding bulk to stool and can help with weight management by promoting satiety.

Health benefits of ‘puff-puff’

* Potassium Powerhouse:

Plantains have more potassium than bananas, which is crucial for maintaining healthy blood pressure levels and preventing cardiovascular issues.

* Resistant Starch:

Green plantains contain resistant starch, a type of fibre that isn't fully digested, which acts as a prebiotic to feed beneficial gut bacteria.

* Supports Digestive Health:

The fibre content supports a healthy digestive system and can help alleviate issues like constipation.

* Boosts Immune Function:

The abundance of Vitamin A and C helps strengthen the immune system, helping the body to resist diseases.

* Promotes Heart Health:

The fibre and potassium in plantains contribute to cardiovascular health by helping to lower cholesterol, stabilize blood pressure, and regulate heart function.

* Aids Blood Sugar Control:

Foods like plantains with a low glycemic index (GI) and resistant starch are beneficial for people with diabetes as they help to stabilize blood sugar levels.

Considerations

* Energy Density: While plantains are nutritious, they are also high in calories and carbohydrates, so mindful portion control is important for weight management.
