Popular Ghanaian producer Mr. Appiah Dankwa also known in showbiz cycles as Appietus has advised musicians not to rely on creating hit songs in order to stay relevant but rather, they should venture in activities that will keep them relevant in society, even when they have no hit song.

“You always need a hit to become relevant but you can stay relevant without a hit after you are known; now you are known so you can do other things to stay relevant, there are a lot of artistes who are doing a lot of projects that keep them in the eye of the public”. He advised.

According to the sound engineer, having hit songs or trending songs will always keep a musician in the public space but in the absence of such, artistes can embark on various projects that will put them in the spotlight and always have people talk about them.

He said this in reactions to comment made by Gospel artiste Cwesi Oteng.

The “God dey bless me” hit maker said he is not perturbed as in his opinion hit songs don’t define an artiste’s relevance and success.

“The purpose of any artiste is not to make hits for people to sing and dance to and then the next moment, they just forget about it”.

“Obviously, that should not be the way of any worthy artiste. Till now, there are timeless songs that people appreciate which may not necessarily be hits at the time,” he asserted.

However, the award winning producer thinks artistes should combine several other things to their music career in order to make significant impact. He wants artistes to emulate the example of Okyeame Kwame and others who he says are still relevant despite not having hit songs.
