Dogs ?Arrest? Escaping Armed Robber

LUCK was not on his side when Denlade Muntari, an armed robber, decided to scale over a wall to outwit his pursuers and enjoy his booty.

He rather jumped into the midst of some wild dogs whose barks alerted the household who arrested him.

Muntari, 27, also known as Nurudeen, was said to have robbed a driver?s mate of ?250,000 at knife-point at Kasoa before his arrest.

Muntari pleaded not guilty to a charge of armed robbery when he appeared before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court presided over by Mr C. A. Wilson.

He was remanded in prison custody to reappear on April 20.

Chief Inspector Janet Dorku told the court that on the night of March 15, this year, the driver?s mate, Kwabena Manu, went to work with his master and around 3.30 a.m. Manu was forced to attend to nature?s call in the bush.

On his way back to board the vehicle, Manu was attacked with knives by Muntari and two others now on the run.

He shouted for help but the robbers managed to remove ?250,000 from his pocket and fled in different directions on seeing a police patrol team at a distance.

The patrol team, which had heard Manu?s cry for help rushed to the scene but the assailants had escaped.

The prosecutor said in his escape bid, Muntari scaled over a wall only to fall into the compound of a house where the dogs, alerted by the sound of his fall, began to bark.

The barks awoke the household who arrested Muntari and handed him over to the police who were then looking for him.

Chief Inspector Dorku said Manu rushed to the Kasoa police station and identified Muntari as one of his assailants, when he heard of the arrest.
