Dominic, The Young Shining Star

Tue, 3 Apr 2007 Source: ghanamusic.com

The Ghanaian Music Industry in the 1960s and 70s saw the emergence of musical youth whose blossoming career recorded an unending proliferation of college bands.

These bands created an impact to contribute in no small way to produce some of our creamy stars we boast of today.

An example is Bessa Simmons of Osibisa. Some of these stars have been described as extraordinary talented or genius.

In recent times, however and variably much has not been seen of musicians described as genius especially those with unusual instrumental talent.

Lately, one talented artist who is progressively getting into the limelight to fall into this bracket of excellence is Dominic Quarchie, aged 20 and a product of Accra Academy.

He has been exposed as a multi-instrumental player, hugely creating waves on the music scene as a genius.

At the President Special Show, Dominic cut himself into a promising musical force.

Dominic, a guitarist whiz, whose Versatility or combination of exceptional musical effort makes him handle the drums, keyboard, trombone and the xylophone has made him the youngest and professionally serious guitar and keyboard player.

In a recent music talent programme last year organised by Kojo Antwi, one of Ghana?s most proactive musical prodigy, Dominic at the show gave a good account of himself doing a medley of African jazz rhythm and Western tunes of R and B and reggae.

In the just ended Ghana?s 50th anniversary Golden Jubilee performance, Dominic after he had stayed behind the curtain at the President Special show glittered with his dexterious fingers on the strings of the guitar.

At El Grego Night Club in Osu, Accra, Dominic has been sharing the stage with the resident band, El Grego Jazz group.

Arrangements are afoot and with the support of a benefit emanating from philanthropic source, Dominic Quarchie is poised to seek further musical laurels abroad.
