Ghana’s rap heavyweight champion, Lord Kenya has issued a stern warning to music pirates to stay off his new work, ‘Born Again’, and allow him to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

Speaking to The Mirror from his Kumasi base, the musician said even before he began the commercial sale of his latest album, some unscrupulous persons had copied the title song, ‘Born Again’, and were selling it alongside some hit songs as ‘hiplife collection’.

“By God’s grace the album promises to attract a massive sales and I am not going to allow pirates to steal my work as they did to my hit album, ‘Medo”, Kenya said.

In the year 2000, he was voted Ghana’s best musician when his hit song and album, ‘Medo’, swept several awards at the Ghana Music Awards.

Everybody expected the awards to propel him to a higher heights but that was not to be as all the two albums that Lord Kenya released later failed to glitter.

However, his latest work, ‘Born Again’ which was released in the last quarter of latest year promises to be a hit as it is enjoying massive airplay in the two major cities in the country, Accra and Kumasi.

The title, ‘Born Again’, points to a more mature Kenya with more thought provoking lyrics. It is also a shift from his ‘Sika’ series in which he talked about the good and bad sides of money. Remember ‘Yesum Sika’ and ‘Sika Baa’?

He has always considered himself as a champion and that is clearly spelt out in one of the titles of the album, ‘Chompia’ (corrupted spelling of champion). Some of the other titles on the album are ‘W’aba’ which announces Kenya’s comeback, and ‘To Keje’, a song about the popular Kejetia market in Kumasi. Lord Kenya introduces some juju rhythms into his new release. Baba-o/Room 44 flies on the wings of juju rhythms.

Kenya who said he believes in teamwork, features Ofori Amponsah, Kofi Nti and Barosky. Morris Babyface, Swazy B, Kafzo, Ramzy and Ike are the other singers on the ‘Born Again’ album.

The soundman behind the album is Appietus, the sound engineer of the moment. ‘Born Again’ is distributed by U Name It Music Productions.
