Shrewd Ghanaian movie director, writer and producer Shirley Frimpong Manso, has cautioned young people against choosing a career in acting solely for the fame and money that comes along with it.

The CEO of one of Ghana’s most reputable film, television and advertising production companies - Sparrow Productions - said this in a sit down interview she had with Nigerian-based NdaniTV’s ‘Platinum Standard’ where they chat with people making impact in their various industries.

Miss Frimpong Manso who is very passionate about working with the youth, women and telling the “true” African story from a dignifying perspective told Ndani a lot has to be done to improve upon the film industry in Ghana.

She, however, showed concern over what she believes is a growing trend among young actors.

“I also hope that the up and coming actors don’t see this platform as perhaps a beauty pageant type thing where they are going to get famous because I realise that sort of thing is beginning to happen, people get on TV just because they think it’s going to ‘make me popular, probably make me more money,'” she remarked.

The ‘Adams Apples’ director, however, encouraged actors to strive for excellence and educate themselves in order to contribute better to the filmmaking process.

“I hope that people begin to be passionate with their craft and our actors would want educate themselves to be even greater actors so that we can even tell better stories because then they are more versatile and we can do with them whatever we want to because we have a lot of stories and if the actors are able to translate the stories by educating themselves then we would be able to tell our stories better.”

The talented, award-winning director has myriads of movies to her credit - 'The Perfect Picture’, ‘Life and Living It’, ‘Scorned’, ‘Check Mate’ and her latest ‘Love or Something like that’
