Ghanaian musician Nero X has called on fellow creatives to openly express their political affiliations without fear of backlash.

In an interview with Accra-based Kingdom FM, Nero X, real name Joseph Nkrumah Buabeng, argued that just as people from different religious backgrounds coexist peacefully, so should individuals with differing political views as well.

“It's a mindset. Just be open about yourself, be real to yourself. Come out and exercise your rights.

“Nobody will do anything to you. You would not be cancelled. Just as we are in different churches yet, we still live in peace, the same way we should be able to live in peace despite the political parties we support,” he said.

According to him, politics is in all aspects of everyday life, from school elections to biblical stories. He urged people to support their preferred candidates openly without fear.

“Politics is everywhere even in school, when students run for class captain and their peers are made to vote, that's politics. Even in the bible, when satan got his own followers and others were loyal to God. That is also politics.

“So we should be free to support who we want to support, if someone likes, he can join me, if not, he can support who he wants,” he said.

Nero X further condemned the culture of insults directed at those with differing political opinions, calling for an end to such behaviour.

“What I want is for the insults to stop. Just because someone supports a party you don't like should not warrant insults. You can insult me, I don’t mind. But it’s not necessary. Let us be free to support who we want without insults. That's all I ask,” he said.

With the political season gaining momentum, various creatives have declared their political stances.

Musicians who have over the years composed songs for the NDC are Nacee, Wayoosi, Mr. Beautiful, and Jewel Ackah, among others.

Also, musicians including Daddy Lumba, Omane Acheampong, Ofori Amponsah, and Diana Asamoah, among others, have composed songs for the NPP.
