Veteran musician Rex Omar has urged the board and organisers of the Ghana Music Awards not to lift the ban placed on dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

The two artistes were banned from the awards after Stonebwoy pulled a gun on stage while receiving an award last year.

He appeared to have been provoked upon seeing Shatta Wale head towards him on stage.

According to Rex Omar, the two artistes are not bigger than the Ghanaian music industry.

He noted that the industry is guided by rules and after their fracas at the 2019 edition of the awards, the ban should serve as a deterrent to other artistes.

“They are not bigger than the industry…if we allow them to be bigger than the industry, then we don’t have an industry, forget it. Principles must stand.”

Rex Omar said the ban on the two must continue to serve the purpose for which it was handed.
