Actor cum entrepreneur, John Dumelo, has advised the youth to embrace farming since it is one of the most lucrative jobs in the country.
Making reference to his personal exploits in the farming sector, John Dumelo suggested that the youth should be encouraged to take up farming since it pays. He added that farming though demands a lot of patience pays off in the end considering that it puts money in ones pocket at the end of the day.
The famous actor made this statement during the National Buffer stock programme to feed free SHS students, organized on the premises of the Accra Girls SHS.
“At the end of the day, we have to eat what we grow. And we also have to support local consumption. And that’s the thing I am concentrating on. We should encourage the youth to get into farming. Farming is patience but there is a lot of money in farming. If you look at goat meat for example, in Ghana, every single day, you have about 500 or 600 goats being killed. So if you go into goat farming and you are even killing just 10 goats a day, that’s money for you. That’s money in your pocket”, he outlined.
He added; “Currently, I’m into maize farming. I’m into snail farming. I’m into watermelon and pepper. So I want to deal at the kind of level where people would be able to come and buy from us. I mean it’s sad when you look at certain things in the country when you have people importing pork meat, chicken, so many of these things that we can produce in Ghana and it’s bad”.
However, Dumelo has designs on trumping the feat by making in-roads into crop production and animal husbandry in the near future.
The actor already owns a three-acre cassava farm in the Manya Krobo community in the Eastern Region which he hopes to expand to 10 acres soon.
