An Accra Magistrate Court was on Tuesday thrown into a state of laughter when a 74-year-old widow told the court of how a 50-year-old widower managed to rape her after she offered him to pass the night.

The 74-year-old widow and pensioner (Name withheld) told the presiding magistrate, Ali Baba Abaature, amid the shout of 'order in court' by the court clerks, said that the 50-year-old Michael Adzoledze asked to sleep on the floor of her room while she slept on the bed as he was unable to get a vehicle home, after he had visited her.

In the middle of the night Adzoleddzi crept unto the bed, japed on her and forcibly raped her.

The complainant told the court, that she was forced to wake up that late hour after “I felt a heavy weight lying on me”.

Adzoledzi who is also a security guard, is being charged with rape. His plea was not taken and was remanded in prison custody by the court while the docket on the case has been forwarded to the Attorney General's Department for advice.

The case had been adjourned to Tuesday, October 2.

Police Chief Inspector Ansah Akrofi told the court that, Michael who lives with his family on the Spintex Road in Accra, at about 10 am., on September 3, this year, met the complainant on a Madina-Accra bound passenger bus (Trotro) where after they engaged in a casual chat, exchanged phone numbers and promised to call each other before parting company.

At about 7 pm the same day, Chief Inspector Akrofi said, the accused called the complainant on phone and requested that he visits her Madina residence to which she agreed and therefore gave him directions to the house.

The prosecution told the court that the widow and widower chatted until 9: pm when she decided to see him off to the roadside to board a car home.

Unfortunately, the accused could not get a car and had to spend the night with the complainant in her bedroom where he suggested to sleep on the floor while the complainant slept on the bed.

In the middle of the night, prosecution said, the complainant felt a heavy weight on her body and suddenly woke up.

To her surprise, the accused had joined her in bed and started to fondle her despite her protest and in the process forcibly raped her.

Michael however, spent the rest of the night with the complainant and left for home the next morning.

Immediately he left, the complainant lodged a report with the Madina Police Domestic Violence and victims Support Unit (DOVSU) who issue her with a medical form to attend hospital.

The accused was subsequently arrested and arraigned before court after investigations.
