Final funeral rites of the late highife musician Daasebre Gyamenah could not happen on Saturday, November 26 without a drama.

Ahmed Banda, first Vice Chairman of GHAMRO who represented the association has expressed complete disgust on how things happened on Saturday during the funeral of the “Kokooko” singer.

Bandex as he is popularly called in an interview with Dave Hammer on Hello FM in Kumasi when the funeral was ongoing on Saturday disclosed that he did not see any public figure at the funeral aside two delegates from MUSIGA.

Comparing it to the funeral ceremony of late musicians like George Forest, Omanhene Pozo and others he has attended in recent times, the music and movie producer described Daasebre’s funeral as the worst. According to him, the family head realized that attendance was low so he took time to explain to sympathizers what happened prior to the funeral day between the maternal and paternal family.

Bandex continued that he rebuked the family in public over what occurred between the two families. He added that he did not give the family the funeral contribution GHAMRO gave him. He explained that the association gives its contribution to wife and children of the deceased so he cannot give the cash to the family since the wife was absent at the funeral.

Bandex promised to give the cheque, which has the funeral contribution of GHAMRO to the wife when he returns to Accra.

The argument over the dead body we all talked about negatively affected the funeral ceremony. To be frank with you, aside two MUSIGA representatives I saw, I didn’t see any familiar face here.

I’ve been very sad for what is happening at the funeral. I recently attended George Forest and Omanhene Pozo’s funeral but what I’ve seen here is very sad.

The family head saw that there is something wrong at the funeral so he came public to explain why things are going bad including the low attendance. After the family head gave his long speech, they introduced GHAMRO and gave us the opportunity to talk. I didn’t hide the truth from them when I took the microphone.

I told everybody at the funeral that the fight over the dead body is the result we are all seeing. I told them that GHAMRO’s cheque is given to the spouse and children of the deceased so since wife of Daasebre is not around, I’m returning the cheque to Accra so they should forgive us for not giving them our funereal contribution.

We will call the wife and give her the cheque.” Bandex narrated to Dave Hammer on Saturday.

Daasebre Gyamenah died at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Friday, July 29, 2016.
