Driver fined five million cedis for causing harm

Tema, April 14, GNA- A driver who negligently caused harm to passengers through careless driving has been fined five million cedis by the Tema circuit court "A".

Hanson Nartey pleaded guilty and he will go to prison for three years if he fails to pay the fine.

The prosecution said on August 20, 2001, at about 0830 hours, Hanson was in-charge of a Mercedes Benz bus with some passengers from Prampram to Ashaiman.

He said a Datsun pick-up driven by Nathaniel Nartey, deceased, was from Afienya to Prampram with passengers on board.

On reaching a place near Dawhenya, Hanson, in an attempt to avoid the incident, lost control and collided with the pick-up. The prosecution said nine passengers including the driver of the pick-up died as a result of head injury. The other passengers on board were treated and discharged at the Tema General Hospital. 14 April 04
