Driver jailed 10 years for defilement

Tema, May 28, GNA - A 20-year-old driver who defiled and impregnated a 14 year-old-girl has been jailed for 10 years by the Tema Circuit Court "B".

Samuel Odoi pleaded guilty with explanation to a charge of defiling a 14- year-old-girl.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that in September 2003, the accused defiled the victim that made her pregnant.

The victim who was staying with her grandmother kept the pregnancy secret, until her uncle detected it, and when she was asked about her it, she mentioned the accused as the one responsible.

Chief Inspector Agbedanu said when the accused was contacted, he admitted that he had put her in the family way, and on May 20, 2004, the police at Ashaiman arrested the accused after a report. Victim was sent to hospital and the medical doctor confirmed that she had been pregnant for nine months. In his defence, Odoi said since the girl became pregnant, he made sure that she went to hospital consistently.
