Agona (Ash), Feb 17, GNA - Two driver's mates were last Friday sentenced to two years' imprisonment each for stealing two goats valued at 500,000 cedis.
Kwame Osei and Kwabena Ampofo pleaded guilty when they appeared before the Agona magistrate court charged with conspiracy to steal and stealing.
Police Inspector J.C.K. Ammisah told the court that Miss Abena Kwabena released her goats to graze at a nearby field but they failed to return.
On January 30 she spotted the two goats in a village three kilometres away tied with a rope in front of a house.
When she enquired as to who brought the animals there a witness in the case told her that it was the accused persons who brought it to her to buy.
A report was made to the police at Jamasi and they were arrested. Before passing sentence, the magistrate, Mr Richard Asiedu Badu, said stealing of domestic animals was getting was on the ascendancy in the area and that he would deal severely with anyone brought before him for stealing domestic animals.
