Nkwabeng (B/A), July 20, GNA - Mr Kwabena Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, has criticised the tendency by a section of society to declare traditional drumming and dancing as fetish. "These activities are part of the Ghanaian culture and should not be regarded as fetish or idolism."
Mr Agyeman-Badu was speaking at the funeral of Master Kwame Gyan, a form two student of Brahoho Local Junior Secondary School in the District, who collapsed on a playing field and died at the Nkoranza Theresa's Hospital on July 7, this year.
He appealed to religious leaders not to condemn culture as fetish nor ask their congregation to shun it.
The District Director called on parents to encourage and support their children to take interest in cultural and sporting activities to develop their talents.
The late Gyan was a member of the Methodist Church at Nkwabeng and the best student in traditional drumming and was scheduled to represent the District at the Brong Ahafo Regional Basic Schools Cultural Festival at Kintampo.
