The Founder of HODA Holdings Limited, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, the founder of Kantanka Automobiles, Apostle Kojo Safo Kantanka and the CEO of Special Ice, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong are three personalities set to be honoured at the MUSIGA Grand Ball tonight.
The National Executive Council of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Executive Board of the MUSIGA Grand Ball 2015 have said their decision is to pay these three personalities “the honour and respect they deserve” is in recognition of their contributions to the development of the music industry in Ghana.
The three will be given the Music Industry Pillar Award.
Dr. Duffuor who is also the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Excellence in Broadcasting Network, owners of Starr 103.5FM, Kasapa 102.3FM Live 91.9 and Ultimate 106.9FM among other communications service providers, in a statement released by MUSIGA was described as a financial backbone to musicians.
“As the Minister of Finance in the government of the late Professor Atta Mills, Dr Kwabena Duffuor contributed significantly to the development of MUSIGA and the music industry at large,” MUSIGA’s statement indicated.
The statement also touted Apostle Kojo Safo Kantanka, who is the head of the Kristo Asafo Church, as a music technology revolutionary.
“As a music enthusiast, he started manufacturing musical instruments at an early stage in his life. He built loud speakers, professional mixing consoles and the seven-string bass guitar.
“His outfit also partnered MUSIGA and the Midland Savings and Loans Company to present a vehicle to the winner of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Gospel Artiste of the Year,” MUSIGA pointed out.
The third honouree is Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, a businessman. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Sarpong Ventures, an import and trading concern, as well as Special Investments, a real estate and construction business and Special Ice Mineral Water.
The MUSIGA Grand Ball, an annual fund-raising event in support of the union’s Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) and the MUSIGA Academy is a night filled with ‘Glitz and Glamour’ and will this evening witness performances from celebrated veterans such as Obuoba J.A. Adofo, Bob Pinodo, Paapa Yankson, Rex Omar, and youngr artistes including, Gasmilla, Bisa K Dei, Becca, Bessa Simons, Gifty Osei, Celestine Donkor and Philipa Baafi.
