Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Madam Catherine Afeku is beginning to brand herself as that Sector Minister who has little or no grasp of most of the things she blurts out, especially on issues under Creative Arts and related matters – www.entertainmentgh.com is just an observer!

Just days ago, the Minister, on Joy FM stated that Sarkodie, is the only artist in Ghana, who monetizes his works – an implicit fallacy. During her ‘Meet The Press’ session, she also stated that, social media did not exist in 2004 – another canard statement – and just this weekend, she once again seemed to have caused an uproar with her brazen comment that, legendary actor, Agya Koo, is more popular than John Dumelo.

In an interview with 2017 GN Bank ‘People’s Celebrity Awards Favourite Journalist’, Mustapha Inusah, the Minister stated that, per the Ministry’s research and scientific proof, Agya Koo tops the list of entertainers of local content and she mentioned indicators like Facebook, Whatsapp etc.

www.entertainmentgh.com monitored in dismay as the journalist tried to correct the Minister on the fact, even on Facebook, John Dumelo has the biggest following but she repudiated the assertion, insisting that, it was the journalist’s opinion and not fact.

According to her, per her Ministry’s research, Agya Koo tops John Dumelo on social media and everywhere else.

Just last month, John Dumelo was announced as one of the most ‘powerful’ and influential entertainers in Africa, not Ghana – www.entertainmentgh.com read it too!

John Dumelo, based on quality research by the firm, CampsBay Media, was listed among the Top 10 African Entertainers & Footballers with the largest following on Facebook in the ‘African Social Media Power Report 2017?. He was listed at Number 8 among the likes of music star/songwriter/producer/label head, Akon – superstar footballers, Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba as well as Liverpool sensation, Mo’ Salah.

Also on the Top 10 List are Oscar-winning South African actress, Charlize Theron and US-based comedian, Trevor Noah.

The list which was combined by a Lagos-based sports communication company, CampsBay Media, weighs the influence African pop culture stars and football personalities have on social media. Lolade Adewuyi, chief strategist at CampsBay Media had this to say on the listing;

“In a world where social media continues to play a big role, the influence of African entertainers and footballers, the crème of popular culture on our continent, continues to fascinate and that is why we have compiled this list”

“We have tried as much as possible to gather the top African pop and sport stars into the list in order to show their influence across the three key social media platforms of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. We hope that the Power Report will be an annual ranking to gauge their growing impact as well as enable market planners and researchers to see the possibilities inherent in their influence.”
