#DumsorMustStop: Yvonne Nelson announces May 25 date for vigil

Actress and producer, Yvonne Nelson, and two others have notified the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, of their intention to hold a demonstration on the ongoing intermittent power supply in the country, which as become known as dumsor.

A letter addressed to the IGP, which the actress shared on social media, indicated that they were notifying the Ghana Police Service as required by the Public Order Act (Act 491).

The letter, which was signed by the actress; Selorm Dramani Dzramado and Henry Osei, indicated that the demonstration would be in the form of a vigil and would be held on Saturday, 25 May 2024, at the Revolution Square.

It is expected to start at 8:30 am and end at 12 midnight.

“We write with reference to Section 1 of the Public Order Act (Act 491), which provides that any person who desires to hold any special event within the meaning of that Act in any public place shall notify the police of his intention not less than 5 days before the date of the special event.

“In this connection, kindly take note that;

a) The special event will be held on 25 May 2024.

b) To demonstrate our frustrations over the unacceptable erratic electricity supply (dumsor).

c) The special event will be in the nature of a vigil.

d) We have carefully chosen the Revolution Square as the venue because of its historical significance and its proximity to the seat of government, to give the president ocular evidence of the debilitating effects of the erratic power supply (dumsor) on us.

e) The Organisers anticipate that the people will assemble from 8:30 am.

f) The crowd will disperse at 12 midnight,” parts of the letter read.
