EMY Africa Awards 2019 nominees announced

Organisers of West Africa’s biggest award to celebrate men who shape Africa, Carbon Av, and Exclusive Men’s Magazine has launched and announced nominees for this year’s edition of the Exclusive Men of the Year (EMY) Africa Awards.

The event which was held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel on Thursday, May 23 seeks to honour notable men and women in Ghana and across the continent who have distinguished themselves in the development and progress of families, societies and the African region at large.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of EMY Africa, Kojo Soboh said this year’s event promises to be more Pan African centred as more people from around the continent and in the diaspora will be participating.

According to him, this year’s event has witnessed a number of remarkable collaborations by partnering with the Royal Commonwealth Society; which a Commonwealth Development Award has been created to award a commonwealth mission that is undertaking significant development projects to improve our society.

He further indicated they have partnered with the Diaspora Affairs of the Office of the President to honour people in the diaspora with the Diaspora Award.

In all, there are 29 categories for which they have been divided into two; which is the honorary and competitive awards.

Six categories are under the competitive awards and they are; Young Achiever Award for both male and Female, Brand of the Year Award, PAV Ansah Communicator Award, Discovery of the Year Award, Man of the Year Sports Award and Man of the Year Entertainment Award.

The nominees competing in Young Achiever Award for the male category are Shadrack Frimpong, Gregory Rockson, Sangu Delle and Kelvin Nyame. And for the female category, they are Akosua Dentaa Amoateng, Beryl Agyekum Ayaaba, Abena Brigidi and Afua Osei.

For the PAV Ansah Communicator Award, nominees are; Giovani Caleb, Samson Lardy Anyenini, Gilbert Abeiku Santana and Asare Kwaku Adjei.

Moreover, Thomas Partey, Richard Commey, Christopher Forrester Osei and Ezekiel Nana Ziggy Ansah are nominees for Man of the Year Sports.

King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Peter Kofi Sedufia and Louis Lamis are nominees for Man of the Year Entertainment.

Other categories up for contention include Discovery of the Year and Brand of the Year.

Themed at “Positioning the new African for a paradigm shift”, the event comes off on Saturday, June 22.

Background

The EMY Africa Awards is an annual Father’s Day-related event that celebrates personalities who have contributed their quota to change, progress and continue to be symbols of stability and role models in the community.

Since 2016, EMY Africa has celebrated the best in men’s achievements across the local industry, community, culture and public service.

Dozens of men and personalities from all ages and walks of life have been honoured for their abilities, initiatives, and contributions to society.

In 2018, the highly respected businessman and chief, Togbe Afede, was honoured as the Ultimate Man of the Year.

Some winners of the previous editions also are Young Nigerian Entrepreneur; Adebola Williams, International Football Legend; Abedi Pele and International Business Mogul; Sir Sam Jonah.

Others include Ex-President of Ghana; John Agyekum Kuffuor, Business Magnate; Dr Kwabena Duffour, Chairman of United Bank of Africa and Celebrated Philanthropist; Mr. Tony Elumelu and Business Consultant and Politician; Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.
