Ebow Whyte is Springboard Personality of the Year 2011

Mr James Ebow Whyte, 58, a playwright and a popular radio celebrity has been named the Springboard Personality of the Year 2011.

This was at the Springboard 2012 Road Show Grand Finale held in Ho on Saturday.

The Springboard Road Show is a talk programme put together by Albert Ocran and Comfort Ocran, husband and wife, entrepreneurs, operating under the aegis of the Springboard Road Show Foundation, to galvanize young people across the country to become achievers.

A citation said, Uncle Ebow Whyte, as he is popularly called, had for the past 37 years contributed insightfully to the growth of society through his creative programmes.

It also celebrated Mr Whyte for bringing life back into the theater scene in the country, producing a play every quarter since 2008.

The citation said Mr Whyte’s works had kept values in focus over these years and also created a lot of opportunities for people in theatre.

It also mentioned Mr Whyte, who on Monday’s and Thursday’s presents “Food For Thought”, a talk bit on Joy FM’s morning show, for his contribution to good family life.

Mr Whyte told the audience, mostly youth, at the packed Ho Polytechnic auditorium that he was humbled by the gesture.

Uncle Ebow Whyte dedicated the award to Ms Commey, who he said, paid fees to enable him take the Common Entrance Examination to enter secondary school and Mr Charles Wereko, a printer, mentor and sponsor.

He gave a cheque of GHc2,000 to the organizers of the programme to actualize his pledge to sponsor 10 to each Springboard event in the coming years.

Mr Albert Ocran, Chief Executive of “Combert Impressions”, a corporate associate of the programme, said participation across the country at the 10 regional stops had exceeded projections by 33 per cent.

He said the show would move to the Gambia this March and London in May.

The major sponsor of the show for the past five years had been MTN, Ghana’s mobile telephony market leaders.
