Issac Kwadwo Williams, an economist who allegedly collected 9,500 dollars and five passports from individuals under the pretext of acquiring American visas for them on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Tribunal charged with fraud.
Williams who pleaded not guilty to five counts of defrauding was remanded in prison custody to re-appear on June 28.
The Prosecution asked the court chaired by Mr. Imoro Ziblim to remand the accused because there were more complaints being lodged against him and that he may not appear to stand trial.
According to the prosecution, on July 26 last year the accused contacted an estate agent, Mr Stephen Kofi Sapanu, at Osu to look for accommodation for him.
Whilst checking on his request from Mr. Sapanu, the accused informed him that a friend who works with the American Embassy had asked him to look for eight prospective American visa applicants to be given visas at the cost of 3,000 dollars each.
Mr Sapanu informed a businesswoman Margaret Agyeman, who in turn arranged for the rest of the applicants and presented their passports plus various sums of monies to the accused.
Williams, however, went into hiding thereafter until he was arrested at Dansoman.
