Ekow Micah to embark on cell-inmates screening project

Legendary Highlife/Reggae artist, also the President of the Music Council of Ghana MCG, Nester Ekow Micah, in collaboration with international non-governmental/non-profit making organization, FransDan Foundation, shall be hosting a press conference come December 14, 2015 at the Coconut Groove hotel in Accra to launch a nationwide cell-inmates screening project.

Ekow Micah was arrested on 4th August 2015 by the Airport Police station. Upon a search at the musician’s house, a substance suspected to be weed was found in his corridor. Since his offence is a non-bailable one, Ekow spent 4 months in cells - - awaiting final verdict on his case.

On 30th Nov, 2015, the court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, said the prosecution failed to incriminate Ekow because they could not prove that the accused had “legal possession” of the substance and that, someone planted the weed in Ekow’s house – taking advantage of the fact that he’s a Rastafarian. Ekow was acquitted and discharged!

With the severe spiritual, mental and physical trauma he went through due to his remind in cells, and having had firsthand experience of the poor health state of cells inmates, Ekow Micah, in collaboration with international NGO, FransDan Foundation, are set to embark on a nationwide cell to cell screening of inmates, give out drugs to those who are sick, and to make donations in cash and in kind.

“I spent 4 solid months in remind for a crime I know nothing about! I went through hell! If you would recall, during my trial, I once told the court through my lawyer that, I have severe back-ache and wondered if the investigator could assist me seek medical attention!” Ekow said.

He continued by stating that, “I was not given any serious medical care! It is in the light of what I went through as well as other cells inmates going through in the country, that, I, together with FransDan Foundation, want to embark on this nationwide cell to cell health screening project” Ekow Micah said emotionally.

The project shall be launched at a press conference come 14th December 2014 at the Coconut Groove hotel in Accra at 10am prompt. The police CID – headquarters, have officially welcomed the project and also promised to provide police officers to assist Ekow and FransDan Foundation.

Celebrities expected to grace the occasion include Kojo Antwi, Kwaw Kesse, Daasebre Gyamena, and others and the media. The African representative of FransDan Foundation, Mr. Daniel Mensah, added that “right from the day we heard in the news that Ekow was going through health challenges in cells, we visited him and helped him medically.

“So when he was acquitted and discharged, we put our heads together, and decided to embark on this cell to cell project.” FransDan is an NGO which is largely focused on health-related projects for the poor, vulnerable, deprived communities, advocacy, and education on health issues.

Their foreign partners are; La routa dell’ustat – Italy, Aiutare, merita fiducia – Italy and local partners are; Litercy4life Foundation and Pricelesswoman Foundation.
