Ghanaian actor Kwaku Manu has openly lashed out at his fellow actor Ekow Smith-Asante over the latter’s comments that Kumasi-produced movies are destroying the Ghanaian movie industry.

The ‘I’m Love you’ coiner, who was not happy about Ekow’s comments, stated on Peace Fm Entertainment Review that unlike the Ghanaian English movies, the Twi movies had won various awards.

“How many awards has Ekow won with his English movies?” Kwaku Manu quizzed, adding that “the Twi movies which some others consider as concert, are the ones that will save the industry.”

Ekow Smith-Asante had earlier stated on another platform that the Kumawood (Kumasi Hollywood) movie makers ignore everything that makes a good movie and only pay attention to the story lines based on themes like witchcraft and others, which people in Asankragua, Sefwi Wiaso, Yaw Wiaso and the rest love.

But Kwaku Manu admitted that even though some Twi movies were of low quality, there were an equal number of English movies which were inferior.

“Not too long ago, Nigeria movies had taken over the industry but with the emergence of the Twi movies, the industry grew stronger. It was one of the main reasons why former President Kufuor awarded Agya Koo for his efforts in the industry,” he said.

He urged Ekow and all other industry players to use the right channels to register their concerns rather than resorting to the use of the media.

“Let us stop this selfishness, hatred and greed. I want him to tell us which producer he spoke to about this issue. In this industry, we have our executives so you can’t wake up one day and go on radio or TV and say the Twi movies are killing the industry. Twi is our own language and we should be proud of it.”
