Embassy exhibits photographs to end "Visa to Bamako" workshop

Accra, April 11, GNA - The French Embassy in Ghana on Thursday exhibited an array of photographs to end its two-week long photo workshop dubbed; "Visa to Bamako" to select best photographs for the next Photography Encounter slated for November this year, in Bamako, Mali.

The 18 participants, drawn from all over the African continent, were mainly experienced and promising photographers and worked on a given subject, "borders" which they interpreted in various beautiful ways to enhance their chances of being selected.

The photographs depicted true African culture and are meant to showcase the continent's values and beliefs, lifestyles of the people and their living conditions including the challenges they face each day. Mr. Francis Hurtut, the French Ambassador to Ghana who closed the workshop in Accra said in addition to other areas of cooperation, photography had become an important axis of the French-Ghana cultural cooperation.

Mr Hurtut said during Ghana's Golden Jubilee celebrations, the French Embassy organized the Ghana Photo Memories exhibition which showcased historical and archival images of Ghana as a way of telling her stories in a different language.

He said the Embassy also published a book of pictures on Ghana's historical images to serve as a reference point of call for people. He commended the participants for their talents and wished them success during the selection process.

Ms Valerie Lesbros, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department of the French Embassy said this year's exhibition promised to be the biggest international photography event on the continent and expressed the hope that entries from the Accra workshop would make an impact.
