The final funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, is underway in the Ashanti Region.

The funeral is expected to last for 15 days, as the Ashanti Kingdom says farewell to their queen mother, who served them for over 40 years.

Dignitaries from across Ghana and beyond, have trooped to the regional capital of Kumasi, to pay their respects to the late queen mother and offer their condolences to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

From stars of the Kumawood film industry to politicians and international envoys, the funeral has seen a huge crowd of mourners throng the Manhyia palace and its surrounding royal grounds, to experience the culture of the Ashanti kingdom as they prepare for the final burial.

Kumawood actress and producer, Emelia Brobbey, was among the mourners at the funeral.
