Evangelist Arrested For Destroying Komfo Anokye’s Statue

An Evangelist of the Christ Livng Temple in Obuasi Ashanti is in Police custody for attempting to destroy the statue of the legendary Komfo Anokye mounted in front of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Kwame Sarfo attacked the statue with a hammer and broke off its right hand holding a whisk. He claimed that God in a vision ordered him to destroy it. Sarfo was however arrested and handed over to the police by some people who saw him destroying the statue.

Chief Inspector Kwasi Ofori of the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Unit explained that the Evangelist claimed that he had a vision three years ago in which God expressed total dissatisfaction with idol worshipping by Ghanaians.

He explained that the country had not achieved the desired progress because of idolatry by the some of the people. God, he said therefore gave him the power to destroy the statue which he says is an idol. Sarfo would soon be put before court on a charge of causing damage to a national monument.
