The recent attack on entertainer, Mzbel, aka Nana Ekua Amoah, by armed robbers at her New Gbawe residence should be condemned by all. According to the story appearing on Ghanaweb and Ghanamusic.com, the armed robbers robbed her of various items and monies and allegedly also sexually assaulted her and one of two female friends who were with her.
Like many sympathizers, I was appalled upon hearing the incidence coming on the heels a previous rape incident which occurred at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. It would not be an easy task overcoming such ordeal emotionally.
Is she paying for the price of fame or jealousy has contributed to her troubles? She is an entertainer and she is very creative at it. She knows what her fans like and she steps up her game by giving them more of what they want. If she deserved to be attacked because of her talents then it is very alarming and all women must stand up and fight against such heinous crime. We must ask ourselves, what did she do to deserve this?
Like many of us who have sisters and daughters, we feel the pain when we hear things like that. We must condemn this act by these hopeless armed robbers who have no mercy and are causing havoc in the country. The life of Mzbel might be in the fast lane because her bank account and her repertoire attest to that. She is still a young woman who has a great future and does not deserve this hatred. She is currently the most sought after Ghanaian female artiste in the world. She has to enjoy her career by coming up with more hits for her fans and also becoming an inspiration to many young women who would like to choose the path of stardom. Instead she is paying the price for "revealing too much". Mzbel, according to Graphic showbiz, "…..feels like quitting the job if that would be the only way to stay away from the public domain and away from robbers". I would urge her not to quit and must die for her conscience if the whole world will be against her as a result. The armed robbers will win if she gives up.
The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, all women organizations, Ministry of Interior, Police Administration and the community at large must come together and fight this armed robbery which is causing fear among women and tourists who read about these stories in the media. The media cannot let these incidents slide under the carpet because we have to promote tourism. We are making preparations towards the golden jubilee of Ghana's independence and many tourists will flock in the country, how are we going to deal with situations like that if left unchecked? We need to protect our country from these animals. I honestly believe some armed robbers are just a run through the mill, as we keep recycling them into civil society. The authorities must send the message out that when you rob or rape a woman; you will do a full term, no ifs and buts about it. Mzbel's attack for some reasons can be linked to those who are closer to her. There are people who probably knew Mzbel had money on her or knew what time she will be in her house. There are also people who know these armed robbers i.e. neighbors or family members but are afraid to come out and expose them for fear of retribution. I encourage her manager and producer Isaac Abaidoo to work harder with the Police to bring those armed robbers and rapists to justice.
Ghanaians are great people; the communities must stay united irrespective of tribe. We must be free from fear or intimation and work with authorities to fight these armed robbers who are scaring so many Ghanaian diasporans from going go home to invest or resettle. My prayers to Mzbel and her two friends who were attacked; I hope they quickly overcome this ordeal emotionally, spiritually and mentally. To Mzbel's fans she is a star and must continue where she left off. She is a brave woman and must let not this ordeal prevent her from walking the aisle. She is still young and must take her time. The journey of life has potholes but when one crosses the path with potholes, life will never be the same again. As she goes through this phase, super stardom is bound for her and God will make a way for her safety.
