President of Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), Asare Hackman has sent an open invitation to Ghanaian actresses who are now into movie production to join FIPAG.
According to him, FIPAG needed the contribution of these female movie makers to help improve the entire movie industry.
But they have been finding it difficult to get them on board. Speaking at the African Woman in Film Forum held at Alliance Francaise in Accra last week Monday, to empower women filmmakers, Hackman said FIPAG would be privileged to have these actresses to come share in FIPAG’s vision for the movie industry.
“All of you (actress turned producer) should come to FIPAG,” he requested.
“..It is sad to know that the whole industry we have only five (5) women who are producers. Somebody like Yvonne Okoro is a producer but she is not a member of FIPAG. So when I see her, I will just pass-by and say hi. We need them as somebody said. Last week, I was with the minister of communication, together with Juliet Asante, trying to lobby so that at least Ghanaian Embassies abroad will show Ghanaian films once, at least every month just to promote Ghanaian films and we need faces to go there. But it is sometimes tough. So all of you should come on board,” he urged.
FIPAG’s request comes at a time when the number of Ghanaian actresses going into movie production keeps growing.
Actresses who have turned into producers at the moment included; Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro, Lydia Forson, Juliet Ibrahim, Luckie Lawson, Nadia Buari, Kafui Danku, Selassie Ibrahim, Salma Mumin, Zynnel Lydia Zuh, Ingrid Alabi and a host of others.
To whether they will honour the invitation by FIPAG, time will definitely tell.
Currently FIPAG remains the most recognized body representing the interest of film producers in Ghana. It is hoping to increase its membership for a better movie industry.
