The Asabaako Music Festival is back on Busua Beach this coming Farmers’ Day, with a line up of underground and alternative music from Ghana, West Africa, Europe and the USA. Over three days, the event will feature some of Ghana’s most exciting breakthrough artists alongside DJs from around the world.

Launched in March, Asabaako has been organised by a team from the UK and Ghana, combining one of the country’s most spectacular beachfront locations with some of Ghana’s most promising and also its most established artists.

Friday will focus on hiplife, GH rap and pop, heralding some of the country’s most exciting stars such as EL, Yaa Pono and Lil Shaker, alongside the cream of local underground talent from Takoradi, such as Sketches, Kofi Kinaata and Nero. They’ll also be joined by up-and-coming Ivorian hip hop stars, Zepekenio.

Saturday is a celebration of live music, soul, jazz, highlife and hip hop, headlined by none other than two of Ghana’s most internationally acclaimed rappers, Wanlov the Kubolor and M3nsa, aka the FOKN Bois. Fresh from presenting the 4Syte VMAs, they’ll be joined by a host of musicians including Lady J, Sistasoul of Nigeria and Takoradi highlife band, Rising International, amongst many others. Sunday will be a reggae jam to relax and take in the past two days of heavy partying.

Festival organisers, Beating Tracks, say, “The festival is called Asabaako, meaning One Dance, as it represents the coming together of people from all around to enjoy Ghana and Africa. It’s a chance to show the world all Ghana has to offer, from its rich history of music to its beautiful beaches to its passionate people.”

At this stage, accommodation is very limited, but contact information for all hotels in the area, as well as general festival info and full line up, can be found at www.asabaako.com. For those without accommodation, guests are advised to visit for the day from Takoradi, only 30 minutes away by car. Entry is free and the event starts each day at 10am and goes on till sunrise.
