THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD Godfred Appiah Kubi, a self-styled advertising agent, has been arrested by the Accra Central Divisional Police Command for pretending to be a Miss Malaika recruiter.
According to information available to DAILY GUIDE, the suspect, who claimed to be a producer from Charter House, an event organizing firm in charge of the Miss Malaika show, goes to both public and private universities, extorting monies from girls who are interested in participating in the pageant.
The suspect allegedly charges fees starting from GH¢2,000 and ladies who do not have the said money pay with sex.
Suspect Godfred Appiah Kubi has allegedly succeeded in using this modus operandi to sleep with an uncountable number of innocent girls who are interested in taking part in the pageant.
So far, some ladies are said to have reported to the police as being victims of his act.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, the commander in charge of the Accra Central Divisional Police Command, Chief Superintendent Joseph Oklu Gyamerah, said Godfred Appiah Kubi was arrested on July 27, 2011 in Accra.
He said police received information that the suspect had been moving from one tertiary school to the other, parading as a producer from Charter House and claiming that he could assist ladies to join the 2011 edition of Miss Malaika without going through the auditioning process.
In exchange, victims were made to either pay in cash or kind.
With the help of the National Security, suspect Godfred Appiah Kubi was trailed and consequently arrested on July 27, 2011.
He was then handed over to the Accra Central Divisional Police to assist in their investigations.
Chief Superintendent Gyamerah continued that information gathered so far indicated that suspect Godfred Appiah Kubi had used the same modus operandi to sleep with a lot of girls while extorting monies from others who showed interest in the pageant.
He urged ladies who might have fallen victim to the suspect’s dubious act to report to the Ministries Police Station as soon as possible.
Chief Superintendent Oklu Gyamera also urged ladies who wanted to take part in Miss Malaika to use the right procedure and avoid short cuts.
Meanwhile, information available to the paper indicates that some female victims have since reported to the police.
The suspect is currently in police custody pending trial.
