Fake lotto operator sentenced

Accra, Sept. 10, GNA - A driver was on Wednesday fined one million cedis by an Accra Circuit Court for operating illegal lotto. Theophilus Ayikwei, in default would go to jail for six months. He pleaded guilty and the court presided over by Mrs Elizabeth Ankumah sentenced him accordingly.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Elizabeth Alormatu said Ayikwei on August 27 issued lotto receipts belonging to Asare Original Pay All but failed to hand over the proceeds to the lotto company.

Following a tip-off, a Task Force Team of Asare Original Pay All and the Police Striking Force arrested Ayikwei on September 8, 2003 during a swoop on illegal lotto operators in Accra.
