False Arrest Rumours: Three Ghanaian celebrities caught in social media scandals

Van Vicker

Rumour: In April 2012, it was rumoured that the popular actor was apprehended in Nigeria with a bag of guns.

Reality: Van Vicker clarified that he was never arrested. He said he had purchased stage blank gun props from the U.S., which were delivered to him in Nigeria. Due to security checks, he had to stay overnight for verification but was not detained or arrested.

Osofo Moses

Rumour: Images circulated on social media showing the Kumawood actor dressed in prison attire, monitored by a prison officer.

Reality: Osofo Moses debunked these claims, explaining that the photo of him in handcuffs was taken during a movie shoot.

According to him, a blogger had cropped the image and posted it with misleading commentary, leading to the false narrative.

Serwaa Amihere

Rumour: A video of the media personality captured in handcuffs while being escorted by police officers went viral.

Blogger Nkonkonsa first shared a screenshot of the video with a caption stating that the newscaster had been arrested, which quickly sparked reactions across social media.

Reality: The Ghana Police Service issued a statement denying the rumours, clarifying that the circulating image of Serwaa Amihere in handcuffs was from a music video shoot. They also urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

In conclusion, these instances highlight the importance of verifying facts before jumping to conclusions. As social media continues to amplify rumours, proper fact-checking is essential.
