The DJ who was involved in an altercation with popular Ghanaian artiste Fameye during a performance in the UK has shared his side of the story.
In a statement released on December 18, 2024 by Chos Media, the DJ blamed the incident on the limited rehearsal time Fameye had with DJ Chos.
According to Chos Media, Fameye participated in only two brief rehearsal sessions with specific songs.
The first session, lasting 12 minutes, took place in DJ Chos's car after Fameye declined a studio session due to fatigue. The second session, held at the venue, lasted 15 minutes. During these sessions, specific songs were agreed upon for the performance.
“Fameye had only two brief rehearsals with DJ Chos. The first session lasted 12 minutes in DJ Chos car after Fameye declined a studio session, citing fatigue. The second session, which took place at the venue, lasted 15 minutes. During this time, specific songs were agreed upon for the performance,” the statement read.
However, during the event, DJ Chos received contradictory instructions from Fameye and a member of his team who put him under pressure.
“A representative repeatedly requested that DJ Chos played Kwaku Ananse for a freestyle, claiming this was a directive from Fameye. Reluctantly, DJ Chos complied under pressure, despite the request being outside the agreed playlist. Subsequently, the same individual instructed DJ Chos to abandon the original playlist and play Very Soon at the last minute, which DJ Chos did.
“This decision revived the energy in the venue, and Fameye expressed satisfaction with the result. It is worth noting that Nothing I Get (Original), a song Fameye wanted to perform, was not part of the agreed playlist and had not been rehearsed,” the statement added.
Chos Media also highlighted DJ Chos's proven track record, emphasising his successful collaborations with other artistes.
Chos Media stressed that DJ Chos, with over 25 years of experience, typically takes instructions directly from the artiste, not team members.
“In this case, it was evident that Farmeye was not in full control, which was surprising even to DJ Chos The challenges experienced during Fameye's performance stemmed from a lack of preparation and complacency. Despite DJ Chos' best efforts, the initial song choices did not resonate with the audience, leading to visible frustration on Fameye's part.
“Moving Forward, We encourage Fameye and his management team to reflect on the challenges constructively. Shifting blame does not address the underlying issues and is ultimately not in Fameye's best interest,” the statement concluded.
This comes after Fameye was seen in a viral video angrily confronting a DJ and event organisers during his performance at the 'Xmas Highlife concert' in London on December 15, 2024.
Fameye was frustrated because the DJ did not play his requested songs and versions, disrupting his performance.
Despite rehearsing three times with the DJ, the issues persisted, leading Fameye to storm off the stage in frustration.
However, a statement released by his management on December 16, 2024, blamed the incident on unprofessional treatment from the event's DJ.
They highlighted that efforts to bring Fameye's official DJ were rejected by the organisers, who insisted on using their own DJ, ultimately impacting Fameye's ability to deliver a performance.
