Jirapa (U/W) July 25, GNA - The inhabitants of Venveng in the Jirapa/Lambussie district of the Upper West Region were in a state of grief and wondering what could have led to Banydene Alhassan killing himself at an advanced age of 70.

He left home last week for a nearby bush to bring back his goats which he had released in the morning to graze outside his house. The oldman failed to return home after several hours of searching for the animals.

His continued stay in the bush heightened fears and anxiety among the people and a search party was organised to trace his whereabouts. According to the police at Jirapa, he was found hanging on a tree, dead with a rope around his neck.

The police said the matter was reported to them and they went and removed the body and deposited at the Saint Joseph hospital at Jirapa for autopsy.

According to the police, they did not suspect foul play but investigations were continuing.
