Farmer kills stepmother

Linpua (N/R), Aug. 27, GNA- The Yendi Police have arrested a 34-year farmer for shooting dead his stepmother at Linpua, near Sunson in the Yendi District.

Mborti Kitinorku on Monday, shot Ayishetu Sheni, 40, in the head with a single barrel gun on her groundnut farm.

Briefing the GNA, the Yendi District Police Crime Officer, Superintendent Redeemer Vincent Dedjoe, said Kitinorku shot the deceased when she was picking her groundnuts.

Superintendent Dedjoe said some women who were fetching water from a borehole, about 200 metres away, heard the gunshot followed by screams.

He said the women rushed to the village and reported what they heard to the Unit Committee members who also rushed to the farm and met the suspect returning to the village. Superintendent Dedjoe said the suspect allegedly admitted the offence and the body has been deposited at the Yendi Government Hospital for autopsy.

The suspect is alleged to have told the police that it was a stray bullet that hit the deceased. In another development, fishermen at Kulkpendule retrieved a floating male dead body from River Dakar in the Yendi District on Monday morning.

The former Assembly Member for the village, Moses Kanjor, said the fishermen saw the body carried by the waves from the upstream.
